About the Project

FIeldmouse Press is a nonprofit comics publisher based in Grass Valley, California. This is our sixth Crowdfundr project, this time to support the publication of the last three books that are a part of our Summer 2024 season. 

The goal of this project is to raise funds to offset the print costs of Best Breasts in the West by Trishelle Jeffery, bird comic by Ruby Carter, and Cannibals: Amuse Bouche Edition by Tinguu. We've carefully budgeted printing costs, design costs, and accounted for hidden variables. We've got everything ready to go, but we need your help to make these books a reality!

About The Books

Best Breasts in the West by Trishelle Jeffery - 156 pg, perfect bound soft cover; color throughout

It turns out that waking up and finding a lump in your breast is not the worst thing that can happen to a young artist in America. Trishelle, battling horrible depression, has to figure out what to do about this newfound crisis. What follows is a frequently hilarious and pitch-black odyssey about being a patient with doctors who don't listen to her, navigating the byzantine regulations of insurance companies, and her own turbulent history with how she feels about her body coming from a Mormon background. Using various color wash styles and a gritty, expressive line, Jeffery's journey is filled with outrageous, absurd moments that will resonate with many readers.

Cannibals: Amuse Bouche Edition by Tinguu - 32 page, staple-bound, full color (18+)

On the surface, Tinguu's The Cannibals is a lesbian-vampire-body horror-romance (need we say more?). Set somewhere in the future in a world where vampires are regarded as worthless parasites, objects of derision and fetish objects, the vampire Olive Yo struggles to survive. Crushing on a rock star celebrity chef named Chamomile, (who only works with "ethically-sourced parasites"), their encounter leads both women on an unexpected path. Tinguu's dystopian art is deeply satirical, raunchy, horrifying, and ultimately liberating.

Since 2021, Fieldmouse Press has published 10 new comics from indie and alt comics legends like Ariel Bordeaux and MariNaomi, as well as new and upcoming artists like Phoebe Mol and Noëlle Kröger. Mari (left) was a featured guest! 2024 has already been a great year, and we're hoping you can help us make some beautiful new books!

Backing the Project

Backing a Crowdfundr campaign is a little different than other crowdfunding platforms you might be used to. Click the perk you're interested on the right hand side of the page, and add it to your cart. You'll check out after selecting the perks you want, and money will be collected immediately. You can add multiple perks to your cart before checkout, so if you want multiple books but not the whole season, (or if you want multiple copies of the same book), you can do that before checkout. Shipping and fulfillment costs are applied during check-out when you support the project.

One of our goals when publishing comics is to make sure our artists are treated equitably, so we've already paid our artists advances on royalties and offer an artist-centered royalty for all of our books.

Funding Goal

Our funding goal is $3000 USD. These funds will be used to directly pay for printing and transportation of the books back to our warehouse, as well as for processing fees and additional unforeseen expenses. These funds will help us keep our publishing program moving forward as we plan for 2025.

We're offering a variety of packages to help fund this print run, including recently printed books, but we need your help to make this season a reality. 

Risks

Fieldmouse Press has successfully funded and fulfilled multiple campaigns through Kickstarter and Crowdfundr, so we have the experience of crowdfunding under our belts. We are working with the amazing folks at White Squirrel Distribution to help make sure that packages get out quickly and efficiently. We were able to complete our campaign for our previous season on time and with no damaged items on returns.  We have done all the pre-work to make sure that this campaign with be successful.

We expect to be able to start shipping books in November 2024 but have given ourselves until December 2024 to completely fulfill this campaign. We promise to keep our supporters up to date with any news, including delays and uncertainties, as we work through the campaign process.

Special Items in the Campaign

There are a few special items that are available for purchase during this campaign, including two early forms of BEST BREASTS IN THE WEST. The original book was handprinted as an entire set prior to being published by Fieldmouse Press, and is one in an edition of 8 total books. These sorts of handprinted art objects are extraordinarily rare, and for the enthusiast, institution, or collector who wants a unique and beautiful piece of comics art, this is for you. Trishelle is offering a copy of the book as a reward for the campaign. Backers will also receive 1 of each of the books in our Summer 2024 season, and recognition as a 2024 Sponsor on the Fieldmouse Press website.

We are also offering 5 copies of the original completely screenprinted first chapter, which was printed in an edition of 18. This pledge level includes a copy of BEST BREASTS IN THE WEST and is great for collectors of unique and rare comics art.
