Hi, my name is Eric Cluck, founder of the nonprofit EchoVerse Comics.
After my best friend, Bridget Maxwell, died due to complications caused by the genetic and deadly disease Cystic Fibrosis (CF), I started EchoVerse Comics. I wanted to use it to create awareness about Cystic Fibrosis and I thought using comics would be an entertaining way to talk about a very serious disease.  At the same time, I could also tell the story about Bridget’s heroic last stand against the disease.

Welcome to the first issue in our two-issue series and crossover, “And so it Begins…” featuring The Ballistic Boyz. This will tie into the BrazFraz Zero issue, where we will discover the origin of our hero (Bridget/BrazFraz) who fights both crime and Cystic Fibrosis.

Ballistic Boyz & BrazFraz

 

Cystic Fibrosis is usually diagnosed at birth, and there are a lot of necessary items needed by babies and kids to fight CF effectively.  Things like vibrating vests that help clear the buildup of sticky fluid in their lungs, intravenous feeding equipment, lung transplant post-care, and quality of life medicine and enzymes, just to name a few.

Whether you make a general donation or back any of the tiers in our project, EchoVerse Comics will utilize your support to help children and families fighting this devastating disease.  You will be helping CF kids obtain the items and medicine they need to feel better and breathe easier. Thank you in advance for your support.

What We Need

The funds we raise from the comic will be donated to Miles for CF (M4CF) and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (CFF).  M4CF is an Atlanta-based 501(c)(3) organization with a mission to help people with CF run their best race towards longer, stronger lives by obtaining medicine and equipment not covered by insurance. CFF is working to find a cure for cystic fibrosis by funding research and advancing high-quality, specialized care, to the CF community.  Up to seventy percent…that’s 70… of the funds we raise from the comic will go to these organizations to help children and families fighting the disease.  The remaining will go towards creating awareness and CF awareness artwork.

 

What You Get

In appreciation for your donation, EchoVerse Comics is pleased to offer the following Reward Tiers for your support.

Reward Tier 1

The first Reward Tier is the digital copy of our Zero Issue: The Ballistic Boyz “And so it Begins…” Find out who The Ballistic Boyz are and read about their first exciting battle in their quest to keep the world safe and tyranny-free.

Reward Tier 2

The second Reward Tier is the digital and physical copy of our Ballistic Boyz Zero Issue: “And so it Begins…” Our Zero issue has fantastic interior art by Ciao Mojado.  Caio has been drawing comics for 25 years. Brazil has honored him with two HQ Mix awards for Best Group Publication. 
His focus now is on Marvel. He has penciled issues for Voices, Edge of Spiderverse, some small Avengers Infinity stories, and is currently working on the Hulk Annual.
The vibrant colors were completed by Vinicius Townsend,  and an amazing cover created by the ever so talented Humberto Fuentes. 
In addition, we will have a certificate of authenticity stating this is the original first print of Ballistic Boyz Zero, the number of the original printed copy, and the certificate verified with signature by the EchoVerse Comics founder.

Reward Tier 3

Our third Reward Tier will contain the digital and physical copy of issue zero of The Ballistic Boyz plus five…that's right...1. 2. 3. 4. 5...one-of-a-kind EchoVerse trading cards. The trading cards were drawn and highlighted with eye-catching watercolors by our extremely talented cover artist, Mr. Humberto Fuentes.

Reward Tier 4

Our fourth Reward Tier will contain the digital and physical copies of the Ballistic Boyz Zero issue, a certificate of authenticity, the five original EchoVerse trading cards, and...drumroll, please...an alternate Zero issue cover drawn by the eclectic Ricardo Oliver with vivid colors by Jão Canola. 

Reward Tier 5

Have you ever wanted to be a superhero or supervillain?  Now's your chance.  Select this reward and we will send you an email questionnaire.  You'll then submit a selfie or picture of yourself or your child, pick a super power you'd like to have, tell us whether you're a villain or a hero and, finally, which EchoVerse Comics hero you would like to fight against or fight alongside.  Afterwards, you will be drawn fighting with, or battling against, your hero of choice. This will be a black & white (penciled & inked) illustration.  
You will receive a digital file and the 11x17 physical page illustration.

Specialty

Finally, for artists and artists-to-be, each comic will come with a The Ballistic Boyz titled backboard for you to showcase your artistic abilities.  Be sure to email us a picture of your cover so we can share it with the world.  And, who knows, maybe we’ll hold a charity auction with your covers.

The Impact

Cystic Fibrosis isn’t a well-known disease and its global impact on people isn’t large like other genetic diseases.  Even so, it is devastating to people and families fighting the disease.  Creating awareness will create more exposure to the disease and hopefully get more backing to find a cure for the disease, as well as provide assistance to those that have CF and need support.
This is EchoVerse Comics first Crowdfundr effort, but we have had other fundraising campaigns.  EVC has raised donations for a lung transplant candidate’s post-care.

We take part in the Cystic Fibrosis Great Strides fundraising walk.

EVC has also put on our own run/walk called the Not so Fun Run.
What made it not so fun?  Participants in the 5k were asked to plug their nose and breath through a straw at the end of their run.  This is known as the Cystic Fibrosis Strawfie Challenge, and it gives a person an idea of what it’s like to breath with Cystic Fibrosis lungs.

The End Game

EchoVerse will hold steadfast to our donation promise of 70% going towards CF kids and 30% going towards upcoming Cystic Fibrosis superheroine comic, BrazFraz.  Yes, it is an odd name for a hero, but you'll find out how she earned it in part two of, "And so it Begins..."  
In a nutshell, and most importantly, your contribution will help families battling Cystic Fibrosis and will give you the "helping kids" braggin’ rights, all while getting an entertaining comic and some serious EchoVerse Comics swag.
