In response to the COVID - 19 pandemic, we are excited to announce that we are producing face shields for our frontline workers. 

The face shield design that we ended up going with is a design from Sweden:


It is an open source design that was designed to be 3d printed. We modified it slightly so that it could be flat cut with a laser cutter. That involved removing some stress concentrations and adding some chamfers on different features. Other than that the design is basically the same.

This design was submitted to the U.S. Department of Health and services. It was just gone through trials in a clinical setting and has been "recommended":

It was designed so that the clear screen that you look through could be a clear transparency that is 3 hole punched (two sets of 3 hole punches offset by 1/2") and can be purchased at any office supply store.   Our design uses 3/16" thick acrylic for the frame and 0.020" thick PETG plastic for the clear screen that you look through.

These are the only components of the shield. Each part takes about 1 minute to cut on the laser cutter and is about 2 dollars to make.

The materials are compatible with hospital grade disinfectant wipes and they are sturdy enough that they can be reused, but cheap enough that if they are treated as disposable it is not a big deal.


We are currently working with Children's Hospital LA along with several others. We'd like to open this campaign up to the public so that others can donate to receive their own face shields. At this time we are only offering these in minimum packs of 10 or more.
