"3 Shots" - An Original Short Film by on the Scene Productions
3 SHOTS
On the Scene Productions
Our goal: $2,000 to bring 3 Shots to life.
Why we’re making this
On the Scene Productions was founded to tell alternative, deeply emotional, and understated Black stories set in Detroit, told with patience and care, handcrafted by local Black artists that understand the communities in which they are telling stories from a lived-in perspective.
With 3 Shots , we want to add a different kind of voice to the conversation: an honest and emotionally charged portrait of life in our city, made by people who live here. We hope it offers audiences something new, and gives our community a story they can see themselves in.
The story
3 Shots is a short dramatic film about a high school basketball player dealing with a loss the night before regionals but he gets much needed tough love from his older brother.
This isn’t a basketball film. It’s a film about grief, brotherhood, love, and reconciliation. It’s about what it costs to stay strong, and what happens when two brothers deal with their loss differently. We want Detroit audiences, especially young Black men, to see themselves on screen with their tenderness intact to show them it’s okay to be vulnerable.
Why we’re crowdfunding
We’re shooting on November 22 , and we’re raising $2,000 to do it right. Your contributions will go toward:
- Location: We have to rent a basketball gymnasium out for the shoot for at least 5 hours
- Camera package: a Sony FX3 and a Sony 24-70mm GM II lens, rented for the shoot, plus a gimbal if the budget allows
- Sound: a Zoom recorder, shotgun microphone, boom pole, and monitoring headphones, because a film about quiet moments depends on clean audio
- Crafty: feeding the cast and crew, who are giving their time to this story
- Film festival submissions: getting the finished film in front of audiences beyond our city
Every dollar goes directly into making and sharing this film. If we go past our goal, the extra goes toward compensating our cast and crew for their hard work and more festival submissions so the film reaches audiences everywhere.
Why you’re the hero of this story
We could chase outside funding, but that often comes with someone else’s idea of what a story about 2 Black men from Detroit should look like. We’d rather stay completely independent.
Independence means the story stays true to our mission of creating accessibility for emerging artists as we love to use first time actors and crew on our sets. This can only happen when the community backs it. Every person who gives becomes a co-creator of this film. So please consider making art with us!
