This Halloween, help us make a film about the worst date of the year.
On a Halloween night first date, a couple takes a shortcut through a deserted park. Brett, a finance bro, is dressed as a vampire, while Deb, a quiet woman, is dressed as a werewolf. Brett talks about Harvard, the DNA test that made him "17% Transylvanian," and most importantly, about himself. Deb listens. She is patient. In fact, she has been very, very patient. How long can she wait? Halloween Date is a horror-comedy short about a bad date, a woman in recovery, and a man who cannot read a room.
Halloween Date is the beginning of a short film anthology called The Ordinary Horrors of Brooklyn Women. These films aim to highlight the horror and humor that comes from ordinary things women deal with every day. The first three films of this anthology will premiere in Brooklyn on Halloween night 2027, and some backers get the first seats in the house - THAT COULD BE YOU!
The Origins of Halloween Date
Two years ago, Halloween Date was
performed live on a New York City stage with one bench and two
actors. This Halloween, we’re turning it into a film. I wrote
Halloween Date for Nice Night for a Fright, a
Halloween-themed theatrical experience by HIS Productions in October
2024. It got some of the biggest laughs and gasps of the night.
Cast and Crew
I’ve directed and produced for the stage. This is my first film as a director, and I’m making it with the two gifted actors who created these characters on stage - Rylie Butzbaugh-Patrick and Nik Pagán.
 | |
Ashendri Picon is producing and running the set and Ming Wu is our cinematographer. We are also collaborating with a small crew of talented artists who we’ve met through the New York indie theater and film community.
Where the Money Goes
We shoot over two nights in Sunset Park in
December 2026. $5,000 gets us through those two nights.
If we pass the above goal, the first $1,000 over
goes to finishing the film properly. Anything beyond that goes
towards Dream On, the second film in the Ordinary
Horrors anthology, which shoots in early 2027.
Why Your Contribution Matters
I started Mark of Cain Productions LLC to make films centering people underrepresented in the film industry and to help support women and diverse creators so they can tell their stories. Halloween Date is the proof of concept, the beginning of an anthology, and the beginning of a production company that seeks to collaborate with and elevate diverse artists.
