Lucky Newt Games hasn't added a story.
Before Lucky Newt Games, I took on and created commissions for
other creators. The need to make my own work that I could share with
my family grew stronger and stronger with time. It tickled the back
of my mind and wouldn't leave me alone.
Over the last 15 years, my partner, Nick, and I made some games to play between the two of us. Once MiniNewt was born though, she inspired us to create games we would want to play with her as she grows. We realized we couldn't be the only people in search of such games, and thus created Lucky Newt Games.
Now we create games that we take great pride in. Our games are family-friendly and designed to promote equity. It's very important to us to keep it that way, and now we're looking to the future.
It was thanks to you - the amazing backers here on Crowdfundr -
that we're now in the process of becoming an LLC. I have already
hunted down a few templates and will be working on it during the
duration of this campaign. In the meantime, we would like to offer
our games in a physical form.
This is going to require a reliable printer. Believe me when I say I have done a lot of research, and I still feel like there's more research to do. I have an idea of the price range for what we want, and ZiMo seems like the perfect time to raise money for it.
As always, any extra funds raised will go into what we have planned for Stretch Goals and go right back into our games, including artwork and possibly the offer of limited prints for some of our most popular games.
We're offering three themed bundles, with three minizines each.
The minizines are 4-8 pages each, and every game and supplement is
family-friendly fun. There's also a very special collaborative
bundle that includes work from three people we have had the absolute
joy to work with in the past, but there's more about that under the
tab labeled Rainbow Bundle.
For the first time ever, I opened up slots to build a zine with your input. That's right, we'll work together to build a zine to your tastes! This is also the only option where we can ship a physical copy to anywhere in the world!
While we work on building things up, we aren't yet ready to ship things worldwide without backers paying way more than we're comfortable with charging. We ran the numbers though and learned we can ship within the US and Canada with no additional costs to you! Please note: purchases of more than two bundles will arrive in multiple envelopes.
If you're in another country, fear not! We still offer everything we sell in a digital format. If you have an itch.io account, you will get a download key that gives access to the zines you purchase and any future updates for those zines. Otherwise, we will send you the .pdfs after the campaign.
This campaign is a keep-it-all campaign, which means Lucky Newt Games will keep as much as is earned in order to cover as many of the below costs as possible. We're keeping it simple this time around so the goal is more attainable.
Breakdown of Funds
Printer (printer and taxes involved) - $420
Shipping (on average, for the goal) - $80
Extra - Anything beyond our goal will go towards
Stretch Goals, our PO Box renewal, and possibly offering worldwide
shipping for ZiMo next year.
Stretch Goals
$500 - We reached our goal! Rainbow Connection is included with all purchases, physical or digital. $750 - Physical zines will be stapled instead of glued. This will increase the size of the 8-page zines and might mean some reformatting for a higher quality zine. $1000 - The "Super Newtlings" channel will be opened to Bundle of Bundles and Rainbow Bundle backers. I'll turn to this whenever I look to bounce ideas off of folks for games, including theme ideas, ability names, and even play testers. A form will be sent out at the end of the campaign to see if you're interested in an invite. $1250 - All Digital Backers will receive a free bookmark game. $1500 - The Super Newtlings channel will be opened to all Bundle Backers. A form will be sent out at the end of the campaign to see if you're interested in an invite. $1750 - All Physical Backers will receive a free bookmark game. $2000 - Let's Make a Game! I'll take suggestions from all Backers for things like theme and mechanic, and you can all vote on what we should go with. A free digital copy will be offered to all backers, and a physical copy will be included in all physical shipments. Over $2000 - If we manage to break $2000 again, well, let's just say we have some fun things in store that will be unlocked once we get there. | ![]() |
Delivering quality games to you is important to us. We will take the time to make sure we get a handle on the printer and that it does what we need it to do for you. We also have things going on with the previous campaign and at the house that might slow us down, so we're going to try to allow time for any of that to occur.
The timeline is written by the week instead of exact days because we've learned this tends to work best for us (for some fun reason). It will be added to as we reach different Stretch Goals.
ASAP: If we happen to make our goal sooner than the
end of the campaign, we're going to purchase the printer then. That
way we can get a head start on getting to know the printer and if we
picked out the right one for our needs.
Second week of March: Emails sent out for any information still required, including for A Zine of Your Own and for any unlocked Stretch Goals.
Third week of March: All .pdfs for Digital rewards are sent out (you should already have the unlock keys for itch.io upon purchase).
Second week of April: All the prints for the Physical Rewards should be ready to bag and tag, assuming things don't go too awry with finding the right printer.
Third week of April: Physical Rewards are shipped out.
Fourth week of April: Emails sent with estimated arrival dates.
May and onward: Focus will be pooled into any A Zine of Your Own work that's left to do, as well as Let's Make a Game! should it be unlocked.
![]() | Hello folks! I'm Laura "Mama Newt" Govednik (she/her), one half of the owner of Lucky Newt Games. What started as a curious venture into the world of tabletop and TTRPG creation turned into a real passion for Nick (aka Papa Newt, my partner-in-life and LNG) and me. Since 2021 with One Cranky Dragon, we have created over 50 titles under the Lucky Newt Games name. We live in the Pacific NorthWest with our rambunctious toddler referred to as MiniNewt. When we're not geeking out on games, anime, or blocks, we're hiking in the local (and not-so-local) state parks. |
Though this isn't our first campaign, it is our first campaign with physical fulfillment involved. The biggest risk is if we don't make our goal at all. We're still going to find a way to print out the physical rewards, even if I have to dip into part of the money from our last campaign to make it happen.
Otherwise, we might be a bit later than planned for a few different reasons: we want to find the right printer and get to know it; we might need to move into a long-stay hotel while our house gets fixed; we want to prioritize fulfillment from our first campaign. The timeline was written with these things in mind, but it's possible to underestimate how much they might affect things.
I will keep you informed of any delays that occur and will work to address those issues promptly.

Two of these zines have three games each, and one has three supplements that can be used in most any game. There will be at least one new, never-before-seen game or supplement in each and every zine.
Quick Games for Dice GoblinsAll three games involve rolling at least four different types of dice.
