Welcome to the 2026 Temple:
Temple of the Moon
A space for presence, remembrance, and release.
There is a cactus flower called the Queen of the Night. It blooms once a year, at night, releasing its fragrance into the moonlight. By morning it is gone. There is nothing to capture or prolong, only the chance to be fully present, to witness it as it is in the moment, and to let it go with the dawn. Temple of the Moon is built from that understanding.
The Temple at Burning Man is a sacred space for reflection, remembrance, grief, and rebirth. It is designed by James Gwertzman and architected by Annie-Locke Scherer, and will be brought to life by a team of hundreds of volunteers. The structure rises from the playa like a desert flower. When the petals open at night, moonlight and starlight wash over the interior. When they close again at dawn, the space shelters itself. This daily ritual mirrors the cycles we all move through. Grief and gratitude. Holding on and letting go.

How You Can Help
The Burning Man Temple is almost entirely community-funded. The Temple grant from Burning Man Project covers only a portion of the total expenses. The rest comes from the community. There is no corporate sponsor. The Temple exists because people believe it should.
