We are in the process of creating an exciting art installation called The (Im)possible Dialogue for Burning Man 2024 and need your help to get it over the finish line.
About the project
The (Im)possible Dialogue consists of a circle of heads able to rotate 360 degrees. Without interaction, they face different directions. They act and communicate independently with a viewer through light and sound. Once turned towards each other, they synchronize and engage in a dialogue, hence the name. Collaboration with multiple people make the task of aligning the heads and creating dialogue much easier than trying to do it on your own. We are inviting visitors of the installation to collaborate and engage in art and with each other.
Sadly, we witness a lack of dialogue daily, in real life but also in the news. People stare at their phone and not engage in conversation or even eye contact. Yet dialogue is possible. And while we do not have to agree, we must coexist and communicate.
Dialogue is crucial because it fosters communication and understanding. Through open and respectful communication, people can share perspectives, challenge assumptions, and find common ground, leading to more informed and empathetic relationships. Dialogue helps resolve conflicts by addressing misunderstandings and promoting compromise, reducing polarization and building stronger, more cohesive communities. Moreover, it encourages critical thinking and the exchange of ideas, driving innovation and progress. In a globalized world, dialogue is essential for bridging cultural divides and promoting peace and collaboration on a larger scale.
Why We Need Your Support
We need you to make this project come true! We have build one head and we are trying to raise funding to complete an art installation with 6 heads. Each head is equipped with a number of lights and a sound system bringing the cost to about $2,000 per head. By supporting this project, you will make these interactions come true and this dialogue possible!
Our full fundraising goal of $13,200 will go directly towards sourcing the materials needed for the construction, such as steel, plywood, and light/sound equipment. Our crew is giving a huge amount of their time, knowledge and effort for free to make it happen!
