Crystal Sanctum
My name is Laura Peters. I am a French artist based in California, where I have built a new life over the past ten years while raising my six-year-old son as a single mother. I am deeply passionate about creating with my hands and have dedicated the last several years to developing my skills as a builder, welder and fabricator. I am currently completing my Associate Degree in Welding Technology, a path that has allowed me to merge technical knowledge with artistic expression.
For me, building is far more than construction, it is a way of transforming ideas, emotions, and lived experience into something tangible and meaningful. Over the years, I have learned how powerful resilience can be: adapting to change, rebuilding independently, and continuously creating new foundations for myself and my son in a country far from where I was born.
Crystal Sanctum is deeply inspired by that journey. The diamond became a natural symbol for this work because it represents what I believe life teaches us: under pressure, transformation happens. Strength, beauty, and clarity are often born through challenge, and I wanted to create a monument celebrating that quiet but powerful human capacity to endure and evolve.
At the heart of my work is also a personal belief that I care deeply about sharing with others: I want people to realize that they do not need permission to pursue what truly calls them. Too often we wait for approval, validation, or the “right moment” before allowing ourselves to dream fully. Through both my life and my work, I hope to inspire others to trust their own vision, take action boldly, and understand that extraordinary things can be built simply by deciding to begin.
Today, I am raising funds to bring Crystal Sanctum to life at Black Rock City. Community support will directly help cover essential materials including acrylic plexiglass panels, dichroic iridescent film, programmable LED lighting and solar power systems, structural materials, transportation, and the logistics required to safely build and transport this large-scale installation.
